Londonderry Primary School, Newtownards

Welcome

At Londonderry Primary School we believe in educating every child, encouraging their unique potential and caring for their wellbeing - preparing them for a bright and successful future.  We have a proud and rich tradition of academic excellence, strong pastoral support and an extensive range of extracurricular provision and after school clubs. Our school ethos is “Educating, Encouraging, Caring” and we pride ourselves on the supportive, family atmosphere we have created.

We provide a safe, caring environment and endeavour to instill a love of learning whilst striving to create lifelong learners. Every child will be able to look back on how they have participated in the life of the school and how they made a valuable and valued positive contribution.

For us, positive relationships and excellent communication are of paramount importance as we work closely together with parents and our community towards shared goals. We therefore hope you enjoy looking around our website and if you need any more information please do not hesitate to get in touch.  Together we will shape the future with learning, kindness and care.

A little reminder that school will finish at 2pm tomorrow for all pupils to allow time for the Summer Fair set-up. The gates will open at 5.30pm and we can’t wait to welcome everyone! Please let the rain stay away!! ☔️☀️
P7 enjoyed a visit to Stormont Parliament Buildings yesterday. We learnt all about how the Northern Ireland Assembly works and how laws are debated and voted for. We got to have a debate on school uniform in the Assembly Chamber and met with Nick Mathison MLA to find out what it's like being an MLA. Thanks to Nick for taking the time to speak with us!
🌦️ Sports Day: Take Two! 🌦️ After today’s washout, we have rescheduled Sports Day for Wednesday 10th June. The good news is that all arrangements and timings remain exactly the same as today. We are hoping the weather is kinder to us next week, but if we are unlucky enough to be rained off for a second time, our class teachers will make sure the children still get their chance to shine by organising races during PE sessions and any dry spells before the end of term. Surely we can’t lose twice to a bit of Northern Ireland weather… can we? ☔️🌦️🙈
Unfortunately, Sports Day has been cancelled as the weather just hasn’t been on our side. 🌧️ The safety of our children is always our priority, and the conditions are simply too wet to go ahead today. We know everyone was looking forward to a day of fun, competition and cheering on their friends, but we will work to find a new date over the coming weeks and will keep everyone updated. Fingers crossed for some sunshine soon! ☀️🏃🏻🏃🏼‍♀️
Unfortunately, our Foundation Sports Day has been rained off. 🌧️ While we know our youngest athletes were ready to showcase their speed, jumping skills and competitive spirit, the grass area at school is simply too wet and slippery for safe competition. We will continue to keep a close eye on the weather for our KS1 and KS2 sessions. As these events are taking place off-site and not on grass, there is still every chance they can go ahead if the rain eases. 🌦️ Fingers crossed that the weather forecast remembers it is June and gives us a break later this morning. ☀️🤞🏻We will keep everyone updated!
🌦️ Sports Day is scheduled for tomorrow… and we are currently keeping one eye on the forecast and one eye on the sky! At the moment, it is impossible to make a call. If we get a decent dry spell tomorrow, we’ll be lacing up our trainers and going for it. 🏃🏻🏃🏼‍♀️ We know some parents may have arranged time off work, and we really appreciate your patience. Fingers crossed the weather is kind to us overnight! 🤞🏻 A final decision will be made tomorrow morning, and we will keep everyone updated as soon as possible. Until then… think sunny thoughts ☀️
✨💃🏻🕺🏻Tonight is showtime!! Best of luck tonight to Lisa and her partner Gary as they take to the dance floor for Strictly Scrum Dancing! 🪩✨ We are all behind you and cheering you on as you dance the night away while raising money for our school. ❤️💙🪩 Have a super night!!
